Metropolicks at the 2016 Coney Island Mermaid Parade

June 18, 2016: We had a great time at the 34th Annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade with our friend and artist, Jim Su. Jim is mentioned for his body painting in the Metropolicks chapter, "Me Horny, You Available?" Checkout some of Jim's artwork.

We love the colorful, carnival-like atmosphere of the Mermaid Parade! In fact, one of the chapters of Metropolicks, "Uninhibited," takes place at the Mermaid Parade. The parade is also mentioned in the summer events section of The Metropolicks We Call New York City: A Guide for Singles. 

Mermaid sightings at the parade included: a Wonder Woman mermaid, a Mermaid off duty, and Barbie mermaids. We also saw a creative "Sponge Bob" and a Starfish Wars group! Checkout our album below to see some of the amazing costumes we saw at the parade.

Getting Metropolicks Into Print

Being an indie author is about more than just being an author. As an indie author you've go to do EVERYTHING! After writing the book there's copyediting, page layout, cover design, and if you so choose, ebook conversion. Once the book is ready to be out there, indie authors then need to move into a very different phase of promotion, marketing, and sales. With Metropolicks, we definitely do it ALL ourselves. We are our own publishers, editors, publicists, marketers, sales force and social media team. And we've also produced and directed videos, managed photo shoots and multi-media events to promote Metropolicks.

Indie authors have to be resourceful, determined, trouble shooters and a sort of MacGyver* to figure things out, in order "to make things work for you." 

Our latest challenge with Metropolicks has been getting Metropolicks and The Metropolicks We Call New York City: A Guide for Singles into print. Initially both books were ebooks. So far it's been an endless marathon of edits. Even though we've had professional copyeditors look through the Metropolicks manuscript, we decided to go through another round of edits ourselves before going to print. Once the books hit the presses, that's it!

Just a few of the print proof copies of Metropolicks and Metropolicks We Call New York City: A Guide for Singles that we've ordered and proofed before the books hit the presses.

After receiving the first printed proof copies of Metropolicks in April, each of us painstakingly went through and copyedited the manuscript for the umpteenth time, going through each and every page of the book, scrutinizing every word down to the letter, every piece of punctuation, formatting, layout and spacing issues. Doing all this was no small feat since it turns out that Metropolicks is over 600 pages in print! It was very sobering to discover several new grammatical, typographical and copyediting issues. We also did a few minor re-writes.

On top of this, we have also had to deal with a number of print quality issues related to photographs that we have inside of both books and on the front and back covers. All that being said, we can only say that our journey to get our books into print continues...

*MacGyver was the name of a 1980's television series, in which the main character, Angus MacGyver, a secret agent uses his encyclopedic knowledge of the physical sciences to solve complex problems by making things out of ordinary objects with his ever-present Swiss Army knife.

The NYC Puerto Rican Day Parade marks the unofficial start of the summer

June 12, 2016: Today was the 59th Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade, a New York City tradition, and the first major parade that unofficially marks the beginning of the summer. It's one of New York City's most popular parades and was mentioned in the summer events section of The Metropolicks We Call New York City: A Guide for Singles. Now that summer is here you'll definitely want to check out our guide to find out about all of the fun events and things to to in New York City. The summer events section is the largest section of our guide!

4/22/16 First Printed Proof Copy of Metropolicks!

Look what came in the mail today- the first printed proof copy of Metropolicks. We are so thrilled to have this baby in our hands finally! Now we just have to get through the final round of edits and soon it will be available in print for the public. It's incredible to see it out in the world and how it's measured up to be 614 pages!

We had a lot of fun at our reading at Babeland's SoHo location last week!

We had a great crowd. Thanks to everyone new and familiar who came out to hear us and special thanks to Babeland for hosting us!

We had a lot of fun reading juicy excerpts from the chapters: Uninhibited, Men Who Love Blow Jobs and the Women Who Love Them, Warning Labels and Every Woman Is Different.

In the evening we attended The New York Press Club event "An Evening with Charles Osgood." Charles Osgood is the long time host of CBS Sunday Morning. He was interviewed by Steve Scott, anchor for CBS New Radio. It was a fascinating conversation. Questions posed by the audience ranged from what he thinks has contributed to the longevity of his career to why he prefers wearing bow ties.
